Calibration of the Wave Shutter

Modified on Thu, 5 Oct, 2023 at 11:57 AM

Upon successfully installing and establishing the motor's connection to the Shelly Qubino Wave Shutter, a critical step in the setup process is the calibration procedure. This calibration is essential before you can precisely control the positioning of the roller, blinds, or shades that are linked to the system.

The calibration process involves the Wave Shutter learning the precise timing required for the motorized device to reach both of its extreme positions – that is, fully open and fully closed, or the top and bottom positions. For this procedure to work effectively, it's essential that the motor you've integrated into the system supports end limits, and these limits are correctly configured.

Once you have verified that the motor meets these criteria and the end limits are properly set, you can proceed with the calibration process as detailed below. This calibration step is crucial for ensuring accurate and reliable control of your motorised window coverings.

Parameter No. 71 set to 0 – Shutter (with positioning)

Calibration with the Gateway

  1. After the Shutter is added into the gateway it is imperative to configureParameter 78 with a value of 1 (start calibration)
  2. The Device  will commence calibration, completing the cycle of movements: up, down, up, and down to 50%.
  3. Check the Parameter No. 78 (refresh it) to see if the calibration was successfully executed (denoted by the value 2).

  4. To validate the calibration, ensure that only the Yellow LED is blinking instead the LED should blink Blue & Yellow.

NoteIn scenarios where the values of 3 or 4 is reported, is essential to verify whether the device has successfully completed the entire cycle of movement (up, down, up, and down to 50%). Additionally, confirm that the limit switches have been correctly configured and the wiring adheres to the instructions delineated in the motor user guide.

Calibration with the S button

  1. Initiate the Setting mode by briefly pressing the 'S' button for a duration of less than 0.5 seconds (a short press).
  2. Press multiple times on the 'S' button until the calibration option is highlighted, as indicated by the illumination of the LED in yellow.
  3. Commence the calibration process by pressing and holding the 'S' button for a duration exceeding 2 seconds.
  4. The device will initiate the calibration procedure, completing four cycles: up, down, up and concluding with down motion, to a level of 50%.

Observe the status of the LED to determine whether the calibration has been successfully executed.

NoteIf the yellow LED is still blinking, check if the Device performs the complete cycle of moving (up, down, up, and down to 50%), if the limit switches are set correctly and if the wiring is done according to instructions in the user guide.

Calibration with the SW1 button

  1. Position the blind - roller at its uppermost location.
  2. Sequentially press the SW1 button four times within a three-second time frame.
  3. The device will initiate the calibration procedure, consisting of four cycles: up, down, up and finally down at the 50% position.

Observe the status of the LED to determine whether the calibration has been successfully executed.

Note: That the calibration process utilising SW1 is not subject to any time constraints.

Parameter No. 71 set to 1 – Venetian blind (with positioning)

When activating the Venetian blind mode, it is necessary to perform slat tilting position calibration. Subsequently, you can define and adjust both the position and angle of the slats. The default rotation duration for the slats is set at 1.5 seconds, and this value can be modified using Parameter No. 72.

  1. Add the device to the gateway and execute the Device calibration procedure mentioned in the above section.
  2. Configure Parameter No. 71 to a value of 1, which corresponds to "Venetian blinds."
  3. By default, the full rotation time is established at 1.5 seconds. If this duration proves to be too long (resulting in the blind initiating its ascent or descent before completing a full slat cycle), you can decrease this time using Parameter No. 72. Conversely, if the duration is too short (causing the slats to not complete a full cycle), you can extend it using Parameter No. 72.
  4. Repeat the third step until the slat positioning is accurate.
