Setting Associations of the Wave devices in Home Assistant - Z-Wave JS UI

In this article, you will discover a comprehensive guide on how to set the various types of associations between Shelly Wave devices.

Before you start adding associations there’s few things you have to know:

The association between devices is only possible if the devices are included in the gateway
with the same encryption method (S2, S0, or no encryption).

Once the device is removed from the gateway the Associations of the device are erased.

  • Open the HA Menu by selecting the Menu icon located in the top left corner.

  • Within the HA Menu, choose the option "Open Z-Wave JS".

  • Once the user interface (UI) has loaded, proceed to select the icon corresponding to the desired Device for parameter modification.

  • Choose Groups and press ADD

Before proceeding to the next steps, a small clarification is required. It is crucial to send the correctly encapsulated commands for endpoints or the root. Devices with multiple endpoints, such as the Wave 2 PM, can only accept Multi Channel (MC) commands for the endpoints and Single Channel (SC) commands for the Root. Conversely, Single Channel devices like the Wave 1 can accept SC commands since they do not have any endpoints.

  • Setting Association from an endpoint of the first device - basic on off to the No Endpoint (SC devices) of the second device

  • Setting Association from an endpoint (endpoint 1,2,..) of the first device - basic on off to the endpoint (endpoint 1, 2,..) of the second device

  • The new association will be added to the list of associations, and it can be removed by clicking the trash icon marked with the red circle in the screenshot below.
