Failed Inclusion of Shelly BLU Device to Shelly Smart Control

Тroubleshooting steps for addressing issues related to the failed inclusion of a Shelly BLU device into the Shelly Smart Control system.If the device is stuck in "Pending Connection" or cannot be included for any reason, follow these recommendations to resolve the issue.

Recommended Steps

  1. Download Shelly BLE Debug App

The first step in troubleshooting the inclusion issue is to download the Shelly BLE Debug app. This app is designed to provide advanced debugging capabilities and allow for firmware updates of Shelly BLU devices.

  1. Update Firmware of Shelly BLU Device

Open the Shelly BLE Debug app and follow the instructions to update the firmware (fw) of your Shelly BLU device. For Android users, it is recommended to perform a slow Over-The-Air (OTA) update to ensure stability and success.


To perform a slow OTA update:

  • Connect your Android device to a stable Wi-Fi network.
  • Ensure your Shelly BLU device is powered on and within range.
  • In the Shelly BLE Debug app, navigate to the firmware update section.
  • Select the slow OTA update option and follow the on-screen instructions.
  1. Ensure Proximity to Gen2/Gen3 Device

Make sure there is at least one Generation 2 (Gen2) / Generation 3 (Gen3) or ShellyBLU Gateway

Shelly device within 10 meters of the Shelly BLU device. This Gen2/Gen3/BLU Gateway device should be updated to the latest firmware version.

  1. Activate Bluetooth Gateway

Verify that the Bluetooth gateway is activated on the nearby Gen2/Gen3 device. This setting can  be found in the device’s configuration menu within the Shelly Smart Control app at the relevant device . Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled and the device is functioning properly as a gateway.

     
     5.  Retry inclusion in Shelly Smart Control

After completing the steps above, proceed again with the inclusion of your Shelly BLU device into the Shelly Smart Control system:

  1. Open the Shelly Smart Control app.
  2. Navigate to the device inclusion section.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to add your Shelly BLU device. Remember that you can choose more than one BLU gateway if available.
