Shelly Wall Display XL: Slow Performance with Home Assistant – How to Fix It

Modified on Wed, 18 Mar at 1:14 PM

Please ensure that the Shelly Wall Display XL is connected to a stable 5 GHz Wi-Fi network with good signal strength. This can have a noticeable impact on UI responsiveness.

In addition, the Shelly Wall Display XL has more limited hardware resources compared to modern phones or tablets. For optimal performance with Home Assistant dashboards, we recommend simplifying the dashboard layout as much as possible. In particular:

  • Reduce the number of cards and entities displayed on a single view
  • Avoid complex or heavily animated custom cards
  • Minimize the use of images, or lower image resolution and quality
  • Prefer simple Lovelace cards over advanced/custom integrations where possible

Optimizing the dashboard in this way usually improves refresh times and overall responsiveness on embedded displays.

At the moment, slower UI updates on complex Home Assistant dashboards are not considered a device defect, but rather a limitation related to rendering performance on dedicated wall displays.

We still strongly recommend testing dashboard changes incrementally to find the best balance between functionality and performance.
