Using Shelly Plus Uni with a Ball Water Valve CTF-001

Modified on Fri, 31 May at 1:28 PM

Detailed guide on how to control a ball water valve CTF-001 using the Shelly Plus Uni device. The ball water valve CTF-001 can be controlled in the OPEN and CLOSE directions using a DC power supply. The Shelly Plus Uni is an ideal choice for this implementation due to its small size, ability to be powered by VDC, and having two dry contacts.

Components

  1. Shelly Plus Uni

  2. Ball Water Valve (with six wires: RED, BLUE, YELLOW, GREEN, BROWN, BLACK)

  3. 12/24V DC Power Supply

Wiring Instructions

  1. Powering the Shelly Plus Uni:

    • Connect the positive (+) terminal of the 12/24V DC power supply to pin 1 of the Shelly Plus Uni.

    • Connect the negative (-) terminal of the 12/24V DC power supply to pin 2 of the Shelly Plus Uni.

  2. Connecting the Ball Water Valve to the Shelly Plus Uni:

    • RED Wire (OPEN): Connect to OUT1 of the Shelly Plus Uni.

    • BLUE Wire (CLOSE): Connect to OUT2 of the Shelly Plus Uni.

    • YELLOW Wire (GND): Connect to the negative (-) terminal of the 12/24V DC power supply.

    • GREEN Wire (OPEN Status): Connect to pin 9 (Input 1) of the Shelly Plus Uni.

    • BROWN Wire (CLOSE Status): Connect to pin 10 (Input 2) of the Shelly Plus Uni.

    • BLACK Wire (GND for Status): Connect to the pin 7 (GND) of the Shelly Plus Uni.

  3. Verification and Configuration:

    • Ensure all connections are secure.

    • Power on the Shelly Plus Uni.

Configuration in the Shelly Smart Control App

  1. Naming the Channels:

    • Open the Shelly app.

    • You will see two channels. Name the first channel "OPEN Valve" and the second channel "CLOSE Valve."

  2. Activate Input State Identifier:

    • For both channels, enable the input state identifier. This will allow you to know whether the valve is in the OPEN or CLOSE state based on the input status.

  3. Set Power Default State and Relay type:

    • Set the power on default state to "OFF" and relay type to "Detached"

4.  Set local actions preventing both relays to work at same time оr continuously sending open/close signal to relevant relay:

  • When Closing the valve, prevent from Opening (could damage motor when motor is working in both directions)
  • When Opening the valve, prevent Closing (could damage motor when motor is working in both directions)
  • When Input 0 is ON, turn off the relay for closing to prevent continuous signal to the motor.
  • When Input 1 is ON, turn off the relay for opening to prevent continuous signal to the motor.

This configuration ensures that the ball valve can be reliably controlled and monitored using the Shelly Plus Uni, enhancing your home automation setup.

By following these steps, you can effectively control a ball water valve CTF-001 using the Shelly Plus Uni. This setup allows you to open and close the valve via the Shelly Smart Control app, while also monitoring the valve's status. The use of dry contacts in the Shelly Plus Uni makes it a suitable choice for this application, ensuring reliable and safe operation of the valve.
